ALTERED STATES Kate arrived with the first wave of Drifters in early July. Finding Castle and Alexis there was both a relief and caused tension; Beckett and Castle had both just had a fight at their canon point, and neither were sure about the their future together. By August, Kate had a heart-to-heart with both Castle and Alexis. She and Castle decided to continue their relationship, while Alexis continued to remain wary of how good that relationship would be for her father. Kate also began to understand more about the powers - Castle's psychometry, Alexis' healing powers and her own talent with fire. She also begins to talk more to Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, and learned about Holmes' shape-shifting powers, and also helped him break into the hospital when they were looking for a cure for the Glow. Kate grew to be good friends with Inara, and got to know a number of other people in residences. Eventually, Kate found the ring that Castle had intended on giving her, and in response, Castle officially proposed to her. They got engaged at the end of October. By the end of the year, Kate was still sharing an apartment with Castle and Alexis and working under the table at the nearby coffee shop. She still hasn't fully accepted her power and hasn't done much to exercise it beyond lighting candles spontaneously. FAVORITE THREADS: In which Kate and Castle have a serious talk. AMATOMNES By the beginning of the year, Kate had already been in Amat for a month. After a little bit of a rough start, Kate settled into a job at the Atian Police Station. Since December consisted of a curse where she thought she was married to Ianto, they continued seeing each other for collar partner help. However, Ianto and Jack reconnected and after a brief falling out, and Kate considered seeking out a new collar partner until she received assurances from Jack that she could continue her relationship with Ianto as long as she wanted to. At the end of January, Ianto went into the forest, leaving Kate without a collar partner. After a few tense days, Jack showed up at her door and insisted on helping her. While Ianto was gone, they found comfort in each other. Ianto returned in mid-February and Kate and Jack drifted apart, unsure of how to proceed. Lanie also arrived to the island in February. She and Jack slept together, unbeknownst to Kate, and by March, Kate and Jack had reconnected and began an intimate relationship. Although Ianto and Jack were involved, Kate stringently kept her relationships with them both separate. By summer, war had broken out on the island. After a fight with Ianto, Kate found herself possessed with the spirit of a dead native, who was in love with a spirit that had possessed Bo. They stayed together for a few weeks before Lanie managed to overpower the possessed Kate, and Ianto brought her back to the First District, successfully exorcizing her. During her recovery, Jack asked Kate to move into the house with them, with the understanding that their polygamous relationship between the three of them had potential to become more. Kate agreed to think about it, but after Lanie walked in on her and Ianto having sex in their shared apartment, she decided to relocate once the war was over. She and Jack fought on the side of Atia to regain control of the island. In June, Kate's complicated romantic situation came to a head at Vala's wedding, when Kate discovered Lanie and Jack had slept together. Lanie knew about Ianto but Kate had kept the fact that she was in a polygamous relationship a secret, and feeling betrayed by Jack, Kate didn't speak to him for nearly three weeks. In that time, however, she accepted the fact that Jack would never be monogamous and decided to stay with him regardless, much to Lanie's objection. This was the point when her relationship with Ianto and Jack crossed the line into becoming more serious, and she accepted them both as equal parts of her life. The chief of police went home in August, and Kate began working as the chief of the collar department in the Atian police. Tensions continued to be strained with Lanie, but Kate also pursued a friendship with Bo, and they ended up becoming intimate again during a curse. While Kate preferred not to regularly pursue an intimate relationship with the other woman, it did prove to strengthen their friendship and affection for one another. In November, Kate was sent into the forest. When she came back, Ianto and Jack both upped their attentions to her, faced with the reality that any of them could leave the island at any moment. By the end of the year, she had adjusted to her new job and was finding footing in the arrangement of her relationship, even going so far as to celebrate the holiday season with both of her boyfriends.
