My Kate...
... has not really been damaged by love, but she's watched it happened to other people. One of her best friends in college ended up having an affair with a married professor, and Kate watched it slowly destroy her friend's life and the worst was, she knew there wasn't anything she could do about it. Because of it, Kate always carried a little bit of bitterness towards men who took advantage of women, and the women who were silly enough to let themselves be strung along.
... is a fantastic liar. She has plenty of experience from lying to her parents as a teenager, and if she hadn't been a cop, she would have been a hell of a con woman.
... didn't know anything about how to do her hair until Lanie got involved. Kate was playing with the idea of growing her hair out, and Lanie introduced her to the wonderful world of hot rollers and pin curls, and the rest is history.
... is a junk food addict. Lots of empty calories for someone who has a high metabolism and doesn't get a chance to eat a lot. It works for her.
... after Castle apologizes for digging up her mom's case, Beckett, for the first time, makes the conscious decision that she likes having him around. That's why she hesitates; knowing she has to the power to make him go away if she really wants to, and yet, she tells him "see you tomorrow" anyway.
... sees herself in Alexis, and a lot of her dad in Castle.
... would have agreed to go out with Castle if he'd asked her at the Heat Wave release party instead of talking about the case.

... drifted away from her mother when she was a preteen. It wasn't until she was about sixteen that she and her mom started to reconnect and see eye to eye again. They got incredibly close again, quickly, and part of Kate's guilt over her death is the fact that she spent a lot of her youth lashing out at her mother and never felt like she had the opportunity to make up for it.
... had a little flirtation with Esposito when he first joined her team. It never went anywhere intimate, and they quickly decided they were much better suited as friends.
